Ondo Elections: Voting commences,security tight,gunshots reported

Accreditation and voting has commenced in most polling units across the 18 local governments of Ondo state,as the people are trooping out in their numbers to exercise their civic rights. The people of Ondo will today 10th October 2020, decide who governs their state for the next four years.

The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC published the names of 17 governorship candidates and their deputies along with their party details, but the main contest is expected to be between the incumbent Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of All Progressives Congress APC, Eyitayo Jegede of Peoples Democratic Party PDP, and Agboola Ajayi the Candidate of the Zenith Labour Party ZLP.

Meanwhile there are reports that sporadic shooting is currently ongoing at Pollíng Unit 11, Edo Lodge in Oke Ijebu, Akure, the Ondo state capital,even as voting commences.
Ondo police spokesman, Tee-Lee Ikoro confirmed the incident and said mobile police operatives have been deployed to the scene.

On Twitter, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says those shooting are thugs from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
