Grammy awards winner, Burna Boy, received a thunderous welcome as he visited his home state, Rivers state, today March 27 for the first time after winning the Grammy awards.
He was received to his birth state by Governor Nyesom Wike, alongside his parents, Bose Ogulu and Samuel Ogulu.
The reception ceremony for the star which also doubled as a concert, was organised by the Rivers State Government to celebrate his excellence in the music industry.
The concert tagged. ‘Burna Boy Homecoming, (Concert/Reception)’ held on Saturday, yesterday, at the EUI Event Center, Sanni Abacha Road, Port Harcourt.
The music star won the Best Global Music Album category at the 63rd Grammy this year, after he lost the Best World Music Album Grammy Nomination to Angelique Kidjo at the awards ceremony last year. This year’s win makes him the first Nigerian to win an award in that category.
Also, Governor Nyesom Wike has described Grammy award-winning Afrobeat artist, Burna Boy, as the pride of the state.
Governor Wike said this during the courtesy visit, Burna Boy, his parents and management team paid him at the Government House, Port Harcourt on Saturday March 27.
“There is no Rivers person that will say he or she is not happy with the kind of pride you’ve brought us. I am very happy and I can tell you, whatever you think we can do to promote you, we will continue to do it.” he said
