Facebook,WhatsApp and Instagram users in panic worldwide as platforms go down

Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp are all currently unavailable to users worldwide, causing widespread panic for their millions of users globally.

We’re getting error warnings on all three services in iOS apps, Android and on the web. Error messages such as “Sorry, something went wrong,”, “5xx Server Error,” and others are displayed to users.

According to data from Downdetector and user comments on Twitter, the outage is affecting every Facebook-owned platform, including Instagram, WhatsApp, and Facebook Messenger.

The services are currently unavailable in several countries around the world including Nigeria, the United States, the United Kingdom, and others. The problem appears to be related to a DNS issue affecting Facebook servers.

“We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing Facebook app,” the company said on Twitter. “We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible, and we apologize for any inconvenience.”

The social media sites however have remained unavailable several hours later.

The three apps are all owned by Facebook, and run on shared infrastructure, which was foundered by Mark Zuckerberg.
