Former Minister of Agriculture Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina has been re-elected as the President of the Africa Development Bank.
Adesina was re-elected by the Board of Governors of the Bank at the ongoing AfDB’s virtual annual meeting in Abidjan on Thursday.
President Muhammadu Buhari’s Personal Assistant on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie confirmed the development while congratulating Adesina on her Twitter page.
Onochie wrote, “Our very own Akinwumi Akin Adesina has been reaffirmed as the President of the African Development Bank.
“Thank you to our supportive President @MBuhari who mobilized support for our own Adesina and why not! Adesina has been proven to be above boards.”
Adesina had on Wednesday pledged to reach out to and engage with stakeholders of the bank to ensure stability and progress.
The AfDB boss explained that the past several months had been challenging for the bank but the financial institution pulled together despite the turbulence.
Recall that some months back he had been petitioned on allegations of gross misconduct. In a petition by the group of whistleblowers, Adesina was accused of 20 breaches of the bank’s code of conduct.
An independent committee set up by the bank however declared him free of any wrongdoing.
