Bandits release 279 Abducted Zamfara school girls

Bandits have released the female students of Government Secondary School Jangebe abducted last week.

This was revealed by Zamfara Governor, Bello Matawale announced on Tuesday on his Twitter handle.

He met with the girls in the Government House around 5:45 am, stating all of them were hale and hearty.

He said the actual number of abductees is 279 and not 317 as earlier stated by the police. It could be recalled that some had escaped from the kidnapper’s den.

“Alhamdulillah! It gladdens my heart to announce the release of the abducted students of GGSS Jangebe from captivity. This follows the scaling of several hurdles laid against our efforts. I enjoin all well-meaning Nigerians to rejoice with us as our daughters are now safe,” he tweeted.

Though he stated no ransom was paid for their release, the Governor however stated about 30 repentant bandits were swapped for them. He urged the Federal government to strengthen the capacity of the security agents.

The Governor and his wife, A’isha were at the Government House to receive the freed schoolgirls.
